MARCH 18TH UPDATE

Hey friends,

Here’s a quick update regarding ministry at FBCZ in the coming weeks.

With the situation still changing, our elder team has proactively canceled all in person ministry gatherings over 10 individuals through Sunday, April 5.

This includes Sunday gatherings, the Trauma training seminar, student and children’s ministry, worship arts, and community group meetings. As we know more, we will be making decisions about ministry dates beyond April 5.

This week, reach out to three people (outside your family) to see how you can pray for them. This might be a neighbor, church friend, or a co-worker. Be in prayer for our leaders and the decisions they must make.

PRAY

  • The Apostle Paul said these words to the followers of Jesus at Philippi:

  • 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.  6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses  every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
    --Philippians 4.4-7

When we experience fear and uncertainty, our response should be to pray. God knows the path we take. Thank God today for his grace and mercy toward us. Thank him for meeting our needs. Thank him for this opportunity to practice active trust.

You may likely experience people this week (digitally or in person) who experience fear and uncertainty. Use these moments to prayerfully share your trust and hope in Jesus. Pray that God would use your testimony to impact someone’s life for eternity.

MARCH 12TH UPDATE

Isaiah 26:3 tells us, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”  We can safely trust in the Lord, no matter what is going on around us.  He is able to care for us, both in this life and in the life to come.

As many of you are aware, the first cases of Covid-19 have now been confirmed in the State of Michigan.  Although more than 80% of those who become infected have experienced only minor illness, we want to take steps to reduce the risk of infection for those who may be susceptible to the more serious complications.  As a result, we plan to take the following steps:

AS A CHURCH FAMILY

1. Since we have confirmed cases in the State of Michigan, we are encouraging our staff to disinfect their work surfaces daily.  Doors and bathrooms will be disinfected daily.  We are requesting that people who are ill or who have immediate family who are ill to isolate at home.

2. If there are one or more confirmed cases in Ottawa, Allegan, or Kent Counties, we plan to limit church activities.  We will continue to request that people who are ill or who have immediate family who are ill to isolate at home and attend services via the internet.  Senior citizens and people with pre-existing conditions will be encouraged to isolate at home and attend services via the internet.  There will be enhanced cleaning of doors and bathrooms.

3. If Federal, State, or Local authorities request or mandate the cancellation of public gatherings, public church activities will be cancelled.  Church services will be provided via the internet.

WHAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAN DO

1. Isolate at home if you are sick...

2. Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds.

3. Try to avoid touching your face.  (This is virtually impossible, but if you try, perhaps you will be helped by touching it less).

4. Temporarily avoid shaking hands, hugging, or other physical contact.

5. If the situation calls for it, wear gloves (to help protect yourself).

6. If the situation calls for it, wear a mask (to help protect others. The mask will help to catch any droplets you emit).

7. Be prepared to volunteer.  We may need people to do things like deliver groceries to people who are isolating at home, check on others in our church family, or help out in other ways.  Be prepared to help if God provides you with the ability and the opportunity.  If you yourself need assistance, please contact the church office (616-772-4377) or the pastor-on-call (616-953-0330).

8. Be alert to spiritual needs.  During a time of anxiety, people may be more aware of their spiritual needs.  Be prepared to point them toward eternal refuge in Jesus Christ.
